The 10-minute lockdown

10 minEasy

Privacy advice gets overwhelming fast. This is the short list — the six things that stop the most damage for the least effort. Do them in order. You can be done before your coffee is cold.

  1. Install a password manager. Let it generate a different password for every account, starting with your email.
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication on email, banking, and social accounts. Use an authenticator app or a hardware key — not SMS, which can be stolen by SIM swapping.
  3. Install uBlock Origin. One extension, and most trackers on the web stop loading.
  4. Run every update. Phone, laptop, browser. Boring, and still the single most effective thing you can do.
  5. Switch your default search to DuckDuckGo, so your queries aren't filed against a profile.
  6. Cut app permissions. Revoke location, microphone, camera, and contacts from anything that doesn't obviously need them.

That's the floor. Everything else on this site is refinement — pick the guide that matches what's actually worrying you.
