Emergency: do these first

The eight steps

1. Stop typing. Don't reply, don't argue, don't post an explanation. Anything you write now becomes material. If people are harassing you, don't delete their messages yet — that's your evidence. Screenshot first (step 6).
2. Sign out everywhere. If an account may be compromised, use its "log out all devices" or "active sessions" setting. Changing a password alone often leaves existing sessions alive.
3. Change your email password first. Email resets everything else, so it comes before your social accounts. If you think the device you're on is compromised, do this from a different device. Make it long and unique.
4. Turn on two-factor auth on email — authenticator app, not SMS. Then do your most important other account. Save the recovery codes somewhere offline.
5. Kill location sharing. Check Find My / Google location sharing, Snap Map, Life360, and any shared calendar. Then turn off location history in your Google and Apple accounts. Remove location tags from your recent posts.
6. Screenshot everything, then lock down. Capture the posts, profiles, usernames, and URLs — including timestamps — before you report anything, because reporting makes it vanish. Then set your profiles to private and remove your city, workplace, school, and photos that show your home or street.
7. If your address, birth date, or ID number is out there: freeze your credit. Free, reversible, and it blocks the most common financial follow-up. Do all major bureaus, not just one. Then warn your bank.
8. Clear your own tracks, properly. Only your browser can do this:
   • Chrome / Edge / Brave: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Delete → choose All time.
   • Firefox: same shortcut → Everything.
   • Safari: History → Clear History → all history.
   Then quit the browser completely — not just the window. Clear the download list too; that's the one people forget.
